Amelia Murillo Montenegro

–

El Centro, California

Amelia Murillo Montenegro, known affectionately as May, was born on October 31, 1932, in Emmett, Kansas, and passed away on October 1, 2026. A spirited and loving soul, Amelia's life was as vibrant and captivating as the autumn leaves of her birth month. Her story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and her community.

Amelia's life was as colorful and varied as the rocks she loved to paint. A graduate of Brawley Union High School and Deloux Beauty School, Amelia's professional journey took her from beautician to sales representative for AVON, a role she cherished for over 50 years. She was recognized within the President's Club, an honor that allowed her to travel from Palm Springs to Los Angeles, even as far as Florida. However, it was the countless friendships and memories she made along the way that meant the most to her. Amelia was also a devoted member of her church, Christ Community Church in El Centro, where she nurtured her strong Baptist faith. As Proverbs 31:25 states, “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Amelia's life was a testament to the importance of family, faith, and service to others. She was a beloved mother, a cherished grandmother, and the matriarch of her family. Her home in El Centro, California, was a warm haven filled with love, family traditions, and countless memories. Amelia's children learned the importance of kindness, hard work, and compassion from her example. Through gardening, music, dancing, and crafting beautiful family photo albums, she created a legacy of love that will continue to resonate through her family for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Murillo and Bridget Martines, her husband, Luis Montenegro, and her siblings, Andrea Pizano, Manuel Murillo, and Tomas Funez. She is survived by her loving daughters and son, Amelia Santillan, Michael Gutierrez, Veronica Montenegro-Jauregui, Krystella Biagi, Brenda Montenegro, Son-in-laws; Bobby Santillan, and Kevin Biagi; daughter-in-law, Joli Gutierrez, many grandchildren, and three generations of grandchildren as a beautiful part of Amelia's legacy.

Despite the challenges of her later years, Amelia remained a beacon of strength, love, and courage. Her life serves as a reminder that it is not the number of days we live, but the life we put into those days that truly matters. In the words of Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Indeed, Amelia's light shone brightly, illuminating the lives of all who knew her.

In memory of Amelia, we invite you to share your precious memories and photos on her memorial page. Let us celebrate her life and remember the joy, love, and warmth she brought into our lives.
