Josie L Rehn Obituary (1956 - 2025) - Holtville, California

Josephine (Josie) Lou Rehn January 6, 1956 – March 19, 2025 With great sadness, we announce that Josie Rehn passed away on March 19, 2025, at El Centro Regional Medical Center. She succumbed to pneumonia after a long struggle with health challenges. Josie was born in Holtville, CA, where she completed her primary and secondary education. Her career began early as she devoted herself to raising her first child, Annyvette Vasquez, born in September 1976. She later met and married George Cano Sr. and moved to the Monterey Peninsula following his enlistment. There, Josie gave birth to her second child, George Cano Jr., in August 1980 at Fort Ord. After their divorce, she relocated to Santa Maria to be near her maternal grandmother. In Santa Maria, Josie continued her education at Allan Hancock College, completing her GED. She later married Walter Rehn, a father of two—Broderick and Clayton Rehn—and pursued a lifelong dream by obtaining her license in cosmetology. Over time, she built a thriving clientele while generously offering her services to family and friends, often at little or no cost. This generosity remained a hallmark of her life. Josie and Walter welcomed their son, Ethan Rehn, in May 1995, completing their blended family. Ever an artist at heart, Josie expressed her creativity in many forms—from painting and miniature stone sculpture to crafting whimsical works from scrap materials. Her artistry extended to the kitchen, where she delighted friends and family with baked goods and confections, a tradition that shone brightly at holiday gatherings. After the passing of Walter, Josie retired and returned to Holtville. There, she dedicated her remaining years to family life, offering her time and talents wherever they were needed. Perhaps her greatest passion, however, was her unwavering devotion to her family. Her dedication was fierce and tireless. Josie was always willing to help those in need, often putting the comfort of others before her own. Her commitment to family and faith never wavered, and the love she shared was a constant source of strength and blessing to all who knew her. Her love and devotion remain her lasting gift. Josie was preceded in death by her mother, Angelina Hardy (Yescas), her husband, Walter Rehn, and her brother, Gary Owen Castro. She is survived by her father, Juan (Victoria) Castro, and siblings Aurelia (Ruben) Escelante, David Castro, John Castro, and Anne Castro. Her surviving descendants include Annyvette (Jason) Vasquez, George (Misty) Cano Jr., Ethan Rehn, and stepchildren Broderick Rehn and Clayton Rehn. Her grandchildren include Jordan (Racquel) Vasquez, Noah (Lizeth Navarro) Vasquez, Nicolas Vasquez, Daniella Cano, Gabriella Cano, and Isabella Cano. Her great-grandchildren include Kora Vasquez, Jordan (JJ) Vasquez Jr., Noah Vasquez Jr., and Roman Vasquez. A burial service will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery in Holtville on Friday, October 24th, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a potluck luncheon at the Castro Family Ranch at 2:00 p.m. In honor of Josie’s love for strawberries, florals, and the color red, guests are invited to wear attire in these joyful themes — though traditional black is always a welcome option.
